Reasons That Kids Struggle in Schoo

There are multiple different issues that can cause a student to struggle in school. This includes social challenges, academic issues, or even physical or mental health problems. According to the google form that was sent out to several different classes, there are many common issues that contribute to a student's academic struggle.
Based on an open-ended survey, many students feel that teachers need to look at things from a student’s point of view, meaning they have to understand that students have lives outside of school. Having to manage homework from seven different classes, extracurricular activities, jobs, and responsibilities can lead to a build up of stress. This can have a negative effect on the mental health of a student. One student states, “It's a little stressful as a freshman because all of my middle school social studies classes were whisked away due to COVID and I didn't really learn much. It's a struggle but I'm barely maintaining a B in that class. The questions are frustrating and vague and the fact that almost everything is a grade is stressful.” This statement shows that COVID had an effect on the education the student was getting during remote learning, and how it is now affecting her present academic performance.
An anonymous student listed “lack of motivation” as one of the reasons that they struggle. Having no motivation can significantly impact a student’s grades. Parents or teachers may see this as laziness, but lack of motivation has multiple factors. For example, students might just not be interested in the topic at all. Or, they’ve come to the conclusion that the subject is just too difficult or maybe even too easy.
When another student was asked for her input, she replied, “I think students aren’t performing well in some classes because of poor work ethic. Maybe in the classes they’re in, they aren't getting teached in the teaching style that they’re used to.” Poor work ethic is when a person shows bad work habits. This includes a lack of productivity, lack of concern for deadlines, and poor quality of work. Some students simply don’t care enough about school and find it unimportant.
Many things can contribute to poor performances in school.
